Opportunity changes everything
SACS Ithuba was born from a simple but powerful question asked by the SACS Old Boys Union: how could we become a greater force for good within the SACS community and make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people?
From that vision, the Ithuba Trust was established as a vehicle to create opportunity, giving talented young boys, who may otherwise never have had the chance, access to a SACS education and the lifelong opportunities that come with it.
But it quickly became clear that the support needed had to go beyond financial assistance alone.
SACS Ithuba was built on the belief that true impact comes through community, mentorship, belonging, and long-term support. Alongside bursary funding, the programme provides wraparound guidance and mentorship to help boys navigate not only their time at SACS, but the years and opportunities that follow beyond school.
What began with a small number of boys has already grown into a thriving programme supporting more than 20 learners, with the ambition to expand to 30 or 40 boys in the years ahead. Every donor, sponsor, Old Boy, company, and supporter becomes part of that journey - helping to create opportunities that can transform not only individual lives, but families, communities, and ultimately South Africa itself.
The programme has also created a powerful way for the wider SACS community to come together around a shared purpose. From Old Boy year groups pooling resources to corporate partners seeking meaningful impact, SACS Ithuba provides a trusted platform for giving. As a registered Section 18A trust, qualifying donations are tax-deductible and can contribute toward BBBEE requirements.
SACS Ithuba is ultimately about more than funding education. It is about building a community that creates opportunity, nurtures potential, and gives young men the support to shape their own futures.

At the heart of this vision is the story of Fabrice Nahima.
Originally from Rwanda and the DRC, Fabrice arrived in South Africa as a young refugee after losing both his parents during civil war. Through the support of the bursary programme and mentorship at SACS, he found more than an education - he found a community where he felt seen, heard, and that he belonged.
Today, Fabrice has come full circle and now mentors boys within the programme himself, helping to guide and support the next generation as they build their own futures.
His journey reflects the deeper purpose behind SACS Ithuba: not simply funding a school career, but helping young men build the confidence, resilience, and support systems they need to flourish long after they leave the school gates.
